MINISTRIES OF JUSTICE D.R.C AND INTERNAL AFFAIRS (UGANDA) DISCUSS M.O.U FOR PRISONS AND JUSTICE REFORMS.
The Minister for Justice of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ms. Motombo Kiese Rose held a bilateral meeting with her counterpart, Minister of State for Internal Affairs, Mr. David Muhoozi of the Republic of Uganda during a benchmark visit by DRC Prisons Officials to Uganda Prisons Service. The meeting took place on Tuesday 7th April 2022 afternoon at the Ministry of Internal Affairs Headquarters in Kampala.
Minister Mutombo and Minister Muhoozi mutually agreed to effect the Prisons and Judicial reforms in the DRC that will match the standards of Uganda's status.
Following the discussion, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Internal Affairs, Lt. Gen. Joseph Musanyufu said a Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between the two institutions.
According to the Commissioner General of Prisons Can. Dr. Johnson Omuhunde Rwashote Byabashaija, Uganda Prisons Service has been identified as an anchor institution for the DRC Prisons authorities particularly due to it's Rehabilitation and Reintegration programs within the African Continent.
The Democratic Republic of Congo officially joined the East African Community at the 19th Extra – Ordinary Summit of the EAC Heads of State last week.
