NEW UGANDA GOVERNMENT PRISON MUTUFU AND STAFF QUARTERS COMMISSIONED
The New Uganda Government Prison Mutufu located in Sironko district was commissioned on the 13th April, 2023 by the Acting Director Production and Engineering, Commissioner of Prisons Robert Munanura. The new facility which houses both the male, female sections and clinic was constructed by Brain Power Engineering while the low cost staff houses were constructed by the Uganda Prisons Service Engineering brigade and is seated on 20 acres of land given by the Sironko District Local Government.
The Chief Administrative Officer, Luke Lukoda thanked UPS for proper utilization of the land by setting up a modern prison facility. The Local Council V Chairperson, Mr. Livingstone Giluri was glad with the new facility which was replacing the old Mutufu prison built in the 1950s and said, he will work hand in hand with the Uganda Prisons Service to ensure that all necessities needed are acquired at Mutufu Prison.
The Resident District Commissioner, Denis Ephrahim was happy with Prisons change fron detention to rehabilitative centres and implored the UPS to have mindset change centres as part of their rehabilitation programs.
The Ag. Director Production and Engineering, CP Robert Munanura who represented the CGP was happy to associate with District Leadership and thanked them for the land donation. He thanked the contractor for doing a magnificent job amidst the challenges COVID-19 lockdown and thanked the Government of Uganda under the leadership of H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the support given to UPS over time. He highlighted congestion as being challenge in UPS and ordered the Officer in charge to occupy the new facility forthwith.
Others in attendance at the commissioning were Sironko district speaker, Samuel Mafabi, Chief Magistrate Sironko and Bulambuli districts, Catherine Koluo, DISO Mark Balamu, Police DPC Bulambuli, SP Christopher Katumba, Police DPC, ASP Omar kokole, GISO Livingstone Kisulani, Mayor Mutufu Town Council, Robert Giduwi and Local Council I chairperson, Muhammed Womayi.
The Ag. Director P&E, CP Robert Munanura was accompanied by Commissioner of Prisons, Custodial Services, Asinjah Baker, Commissioner of Prisons, Safety & Security, Wilson Magomu, Commissioner of Prisons, Corporate Affairs, Frank Baine, Assistant Commissioner Enginneering, Eng. Tiberondwa Henry, Assistant Commissioner of Prisons, RPC Eastern Region Goddie Ronald, Superintendent of Prisons, Engineering, Okiror Stanslous and Principal Officer I, Officer in charge Mutufu, Joseph Naggai.
