OPM SUPPORT FEEDING IN KARAMOJA

The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni on 1 Mrach 2017 marked the African Day of School Feeding at Namalu Prisons Farm under the "Karamoja feeds Karamoja" initative by the Office of the Prime Minister in partnership with the World Fodd Programme and the Uganda Prisons Service.

The Deputy Country Director at the World Food Programme, Cheryl Harrison noted the the WFP was delighted with the joint partnership between WFP, OPM and UPS in the major steps taken towards home grown school feeding.

The Government since 2015 has contributed more then 900 metric tons of maize cereal towards feeding in all 288 schools in karamoja, which has helped in keeping the girls in school.
The Commissioner General of Prisons in his speech thanked the First Lady for the trust put in the Prisons Service with such an assignment and assured her that the UPS has the capacity to deliver support from the Office of the Prime Minister whenever called upon.

Hon. Janet was thankful to the WFP and the Prisons for the tremendous job done in providing food to the Karamoja Schools. The First Lady commissioned the giant storage building constructed at the Prisons Farm.
