RWOT ACANA II VISITS U.G PRISON LOTUTURU

 

Rwot David Acana II, Paramount Chief of Acholi Cultural Institution, toured Uganda Government Prison Farm Lotuturu in Lamwo District to benchmark best practices in coffee production and management.

 

 

The Paramount Chief was led on a guided tour by the Regional Prisons Commander – Northern Region, Margaret Orik Obonyo, Assistant Commissioner of Prisons where he explored the farm's coffee plantations, rehabilitation programs, post-harvest handling techniques and cutting-edge pulping machine.

 

 

The Uganda Prisons is also producing coffee seedlings for the neighbouring community as part of its economic empowerment initiatives.

 

Coffee growing is a vital livelihood source for the people of Acholi, providing income and economic stability. Enhancing coffee production in the region will improve livelihoods, foster economic growth, and promote food security.

 

 

"This partnership will boost our coffee industry, empowering our people economically," Mrs. Orik said. UPS' innovative approach to rehabilitation through agriculture is expected to have a positive impact on the region's coffee sector.
